Stake Conference Surprise!

Well, today the choir sounded superb! John did an excellent job preparing our stake choir for Stake Conference in only 4 weeks. Elder Ballard and one of the 70 were there. It was a fabulous conference. I got to lead the congregational singing, and John led the choir. We were a little surprised when the Stake President spoke about our experience in getting sealed last June in the Priesthood Leadership meeting yesterday. John came home and said -- "Pres. Young spoke about us today. Not by name, but. . . " Well, today, Pres. Young even went that far: "He said, Brother Jorgensen and his wife were sealed on June 6th in the Draper Temple."

However, that was not the only surprise. We got this surprise last Sunday when the Stake Executive Secretary called us in for an interview with the Stake President. One week before Conference? Sound suspicious? Yep! John has been called, and today was set apart, as a member of the Stake High Council! Is John nervous? Oh, yeah! And he has been so happy being the clerk for the last 6 years. I guess it's time to move on to more experiences, and see just what the Lord has in store for us now.

Well, keep us posted on everyone's Christmas fun. We'll try to keep up, too.

Last week, when we down for Thanksgiving, John said something about how that calling he wished for would be to be the stake choir director. I wanted to say to him at that time, that he needed to have callings in leadership because that's where he is needed. It's not always about where we want to serve, but always about how the Lord wants to mold us, and give us experiences that can build the kingdom. And that's all I have to say about that, except - Congratulations, what an assignment and calling. All those talks to prepare!

I was very intrigued by your blog title and just had to read it quick. It sounds like you guys had a great stake conference. I am sure that John will be a great High Councilor. I guess he'll be talking on a regular basis at church. What a weekend you guys have had. One of those great "spiritual high" weekends that by the end of it you have a big headache. Hope that you guys have a good week. I want to have a Sunday dinner at my house next week. I will call you.

It seems to be the time for new callings. Jim spent 7 1/2 years as a gospel doctrine teacher in our ward and has just been put in as an assistant in the High Priest group. I guess when we get comfortable where we are it's time for a change. I don't think John has anything to be nervous about, he grew up with a wonderful example of priesthood leadership.

My favorite High Council speaker was always Uncle John. He always told stories and taught by the spirit. He did have a tendency to ramble from time to time but I quite enjoyed it. John will do great following his footsteps.
